Committed Again. 2012 CSA Food Basket From Roots And Shoots Farm

My summer eating is again going to consist of fresh, local, organic vegetables such as kale, beets, carrots, zucchini, lettuce, and tomatoes. This morning I renewed my subscription for my 2012 CSA food basket with Roots and Shoots Farm.

Roots and Shoots Farm is going into their 3rd season and so am I. A half share (less than $300) suits our family best. We will receive 8 baskets every other week, starting the end of June and going into October.

Roots and Shoots will be opening up subscriptions to their waiting list in February. Are you interested? Here is where you can sign up.

Below are some of my food baskets from this past season. Click on the picture to see more details from that week.

Looks delicious, doesn't it? Are you considering joining a CSA farm this summer? It likely is a good time to start looking around.

  1. I signed up for mine a few weeks ago. Can't wait!

  2. We did a basket from Covenant Farm for one summer and loved being introduced to new veggies and getting them so fresh. The basket was too big for just two people, so for now we are planning on frequenting the farmer's market once a week instead this summer.

  3. Jenny: If I was clever, I would start mining the Internet for some new recipes to try or at least use for inspiration. I have embraced the challenge of trying vegetables that I don't tend to seek out on my own.

  4. Urban Girl: We are kind of in the same boat being just two people but I like the challenge of having to try a new vegetable. I don't trust myself to be that bold at the market. This summer I want to do more in the way of 'preserving' contents from my basket to ensure it is well used. We had lots of company last summer just to avoid wasting. Not necessarily a bad thing!
